In case you were curing your American Idol hangover (how long before we forget all their names?), the current President and the former Vice went to head to head–sorta.
At the same time, Cheney and Obama delivered two speeches on torture today. Cheney was in his usual “undisclosed location” (some say it is the basement of a Piggly Wigglie’s), and Obama was at the National Archives building.
They spoke, they indirectly took a jab at each other, and then they parted ways. Here is a break down of their differing points of view on practically everything they mentioned in their respective speeches.
One indication that warmer waters may be in the horizon between these two was their stance on Obama not releasing the torture photos:
Obama:
In short, there is a clear and compelling reason to not release these particular photos. There are nearly 200,000 Americans who are serving in harm’s way, and I have a solemn responsibility for their safety as commander-in-chief. Nothing would be gained by the release of these photos that matters more than the lives of our young men and women serving in harm’s way.Cheney:
Obama “deserves our support” for his “wise decision.”
Sunny days may be ahead.
